McDonalds or Maccas, as Australians affectionately call it, is the world’s largest fast-food chain. Though you can walk into a Maccas anywhere in the world and expect to order fries and a quarter pounder, most countries have incorporated their own flavours into the traditional menu. Below are the more exciting items you can buy at McDonald's chains all over the world.
South Korea has a tradition of carefully constructing, growing and harvesting unique and exquisite flavours. McDonald's in Korea is no exception with exciting additions to the traditional McDonald’s menu. Today they serve Double Choc Waffle Fries, Bulgogi Burger, McSpicy Shanghai Deluxe, 1955 Burger and Deluxe Shrimp Burger.
In Malaysia, who’s cuisine is a mix of delicate flavours and hard curries, has added to the traditional menu the Prosperity Burger, which is a beef patty with black pepper sauce, onions, and a sesame seed bun.
As India is predominantly a Hindu country, their McDonald’s omits beef from their menu, so McDonald’s India has only vegetarian, chicken and a couple of fish options. Their specialty is heavily influenced by Indian cuisine; it features McCurry Pan, a bread boat filled with vegetables and curry sauce, The McPaneer Royale, paneer cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and cheese and onion sauce.
Egypt offers the McFalafel; you will find this on the breakfast menu. It comes with three pieces of falafel, tomato, lettuce, onion, pickles and topped with Tahini sauce with a garlic sauce made from a sesame extract base, all wrapped inside a freshly baked tortilla bread.
Arabian Nations and Pakistan
McArabia is a pita bread sandwich, complete with spiced chicken, lettuce, tomato and a special McArabia sauce.
Uruguay’s McDonald’s offers the Pancake Helado – Pancakes filled with the country’s famous caramel known as Dulce de Leche (Which directly translates to ‘sweet of the milk’). It is topped with ice-cream and drizzled with more Dulce de Leche.
Mexico offers the McMollette on the breakfast menu. It is made up of three warm pieces of bread, topped with beans, cheese, and Mexican salsa.
Toffee latte and the Winter Warmer Burger will carry one through the Irish cold snaps; the burger is made up of an Irish beef patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce, red onions and a special cheese sauce and, the best part, the bun is shaped like a snowflake.
In Singapore, it’s the Ninja Chicken Burger and Seaweed Shaker Fries. A Charcoal bun encasing a chicken thigh in a Nanban sauce, cabbage and Japanese tartar which can be accompanied with a side of fries sprinkled with zingy nori seaweed flakes.
McNürnburger, Germany’s answer to the esteemed Big Mac with three bratwursts sausages, mustard, and onions.
The Greek Mac features alongside the traditional McDonald’s menu. This “burger” consists of: beef patties cooked with greek spices, tzatziki (herbed yoghurt), onions and tomato in pita bread pocket.
Taiwan offers among other more western appropriations of McDonald’s something called the Spicy McNugget which are seasoned with vanilla
Traditional gazpacho is served to complement any of the other mains in McDonald’s Spain. The classic dish is a chilled tomato soup with onions and herbs.
In Canada, it’s all about the Poutine. Fries smothered in cheese curds from Quebec and bacon.
Adding to the list, there are some countries in both Asia and Europe that offer beer alongside the menu.
