If you’re sick of losing your car keys or forgetting people’s names, the key to a better memory could be easier than you’d think.
In a new study from the University of Northern Florida, participants’ working memories were tested. They were then asked to climb trees, crawl, run barefoot and navigate obstacles.
These activities help to hone your proprioception, the brain’s awareness of your body’s position and orientation.
After two hours of activity, the participants were tested again and researchers found their working memory capacity had increased by an astounding 50 percent!
Interestingly, participants in a yoga class were given the same working memory tests before and after their class and showed no increase in working memory capacity.
The study’s research associate Dr Ross Alloway said “by taking a break to do activities that are unpredictable and require us to consciously adapt our movements, we can boost our working memory to perform better in the classroom and the board room.”
