Yellow-Bellied Marmot
Marmota flaviventris nosophora
Subspecies of Marmot
August 20, 1805, Lemhi River, Lemhi County, Idaho.
Yellowish brown, with yellowish belly. Feet buff to light brown. Whitish spots between eyes. Buff or yellowish patches below ear to shoulders. Tail bushy. Length: 18.5–28 in (47–70 cm); tail: 5.1–8.6 in (13–22 cm). Weight: 5–10 lb (2.2–4.5 kg).
Rocky areas, talus slopes, valleys, and foothills to elevations of 11,000 ft (3,300 m).
British Columbia, southern Alberta, and Montana south through eastern California and east to Colorado and northern New Mexico. Western Idaho and eastern Washington and Oregon.
One of 11 subspecies that live in different areas depending on local climate.
