In the climax of his political and civil rights activism Dr Mowattak Al-Rubaie was arrested in 1978 to be psychologically and physically tortured by Saddam Hussein's officials, including electric shocks and beating until he lost consciousness. Once his kidneys shut down, they released him to die at home, but he was lucky to survive and left Iraq immediately—but Saddam never left his mind.
