It’s often stated that knowledge is power, however it doesn’t matter how much you understand the complexities of an issue or in this case the needs of tiny communities and families, seeing a tree felled just never feels right. It also feels more uncomfortable when it happens in countries with little or no regulation or monitoring. As a photographer it’s important to document issues accurately and impartially rather than attempting to sway people to your personal opinion no-matter how you feel at the time. Logging and deforestation are complex issues that are at times mutually exclusive so I found this assignment very trying.
