47 Mesmerising Photos of Animals in the Wild

Furry, feathered, and finned—we've curated a selection of photographs to inspire the nature photographer in you.

Photographing animals in their natural environment is a big part of the stories we tell at National Geographic. Every September, we invite photographers from around the globe to submit their best wildlife shots for a chance to win the title of Nature Photographer of the Year. With this year’s contest kicking off on September 5, we've put together this special selection of past entries to get your creative juices flowing.
