Patrick, the World’s Heaviest Wombat has Died

And everything is awful

The 31 year old bare-nosed wombat  known as Patrick or ‘Paddy Cake’ was a social star with more than 55,000 friends all over the world. The chubby marsupial was wheeled out in a blue wheelbarrow to greet his fans.

Friends and fans took to the behemoth’s Facebook to give their condolences:

“Make sure the wheelbarrow is part of the memorial please!" Andrew Jaunay wrote

"Beautiful smile... we miss you buddy!" Abdel Zakaria wrote.

When Patrick’s mother died in 1987, Ballarat Wildlife took him in as their own. Several attempts were made to release him back into the wild but because of Patrick’s demeanour, he was consistently beaten up by wild wombats.

"He was such a gentleman," Julie Leonard from Ballarat Wildlife Park spokeswoman explained.

Patrick’s legacy will live on and the park is planning to build a memorial for Patrick.

In 2014, Patrick was the largest wombat on earth and weighed a mammoth 38kg. He never had children or any partners giving him the nickname: “oldest living wombat virgin."

And in 2015 the buck-toothed marsupial joined Tinder.

Rest in Peace Paddy Cake, We’ll miss you, buddy.
