The European space agency’s two Sentinel-2-satellites – Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2b have taken some of the clearest mosaic images taken from space.
Both satellites orbit at a height of about 700 km. Once the photos were captured, they were stitched together by EOX, a German mapping firm.
The two mosaics were taken at different times during the year, to make sure there were no clouds blocking the photos. The Southern hemisphere photos were taken between November and March while the Northern hemisphere's mosaics were taken between May and September
Joachim Ungar the lead Cartographer at EOX believes the picture is rare.
To have a visually appealing mosaic, it is desired to show the Earth during summer, when vegetation reaches its annual peak
250 terabytes of data were used from both sentinel satellites. More coverage from Asia and the Americas is coming from Sentinel 2b.
