Itinerary - 10 Days

Day 1 Anchorage

Arrive at any time.

Days 2 & 3 Homer

Travel along stunning glacier-carved coast of the Kenai Peninsula. Keep your eye out for beluga whales playing out at sea, and take in views of the volcanoes lining the Cook Inlet. Upon arrival, set out on an optional hike outside of Homer. The next day is free to explore the town’s museums, restaurants, and art galleries. You may also opt to explore Kachemak Bay by water taxi or try your hand at halibut-fishing. (2B)

Days 4 & 5 Seward

Continue to the tip of the Kenai Peninsula for a behind-the-scenes tour of the renowned Alaska SeaLife Center. National Geographic has collaborated with this marine science facility on projects like CritterCam, which documents wildlife behavior from an animal's perspective. Visit the labs here and meet a researcher for a presentation on current projects. The next day, set out by ship to explore the Kenai Fjords, viewing glaciers, seabird colonies, puffins, sea lions, and whales. The afternoon is free to go hiking or explore the town. (2B)

Day 6 Denali National Park and Preserve

Enjoy a scenic drive, stopping for photos along the road to Denali National Park and Preserve, home to the highest mountain in North America. Settle in this afternoon and meet with an expert from the Denali Education Center to learn about the natural history of the park and National Geographic's long legacy of exploration and scientific research here. Day 7 Denali National Park and Preserve

Embark on a day-long excursion to the Eielson Visitor Center at the heart of the park for a tour with a naturalist from the National Parks Service. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Alaska Range and its soaring peaks. Have your camera at the ready to capture images of caribou, grizzly bears, moose, and more. (1B, 1L)

Day 8 Denali National Park and Preserve

Set out on a hike with a naturalist guide, taking in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of Denali’s wilderness. The afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the great outdoors, with options to visit a sled dog kennel or take a scenic flight over the park. This evening, meet up with a local resident to discuss the area’s history and culture and learn about daily life among these rugged landscapes. (1B, 1L)

Days 9 & 10 Anchorage

Enjoy the scenic drive back to Anchorage for our final evening. Depart at any time the following day. (2B)
