The opportunity is yours on this six-day adventure in the vast wilderness of the Canadian Arctic. Sit down to a picnic on the tundra and opt to go dogsledding through the region's breathtaking landscapes on a one-of-a-kind wildlife adventure.

Trip Highlights

  • Take a full-day Tundra Buggy excursion, searching for polar bears along the shores of Hudson Bay and learning about threats to the species and their habitat.
  • See artifacts from the Hudson Bay Company at the visitors center at the Churchill Heritage Railway Station and enjoy a lecture by a Parks Canada representative.
  • Attend a private cocktail reception with some of the representatives from Polar Bears International.
  • Sit down with a resident of Churchill who will entertain us with a presentation and stories about what life is like in an isolated Northern Canadian town.

Itinerary - 6 Days

Day 1 Winnipeg

Arrive at any time.

Day 2 Churchill

Catch an early morning flight to Churchill, Manitoba, a former fur trading post set on the southern shores of the Hudson Bay. Upon arrival, take a tour of some of the area's sites including Cape Merry, the Port of Churchill, and Manitoba Conservation’s polar bear holding facility. Then visit the Eskimo Museum, home to an impressive collection of Inuit art and artifacts. Late this evening, drive out of town and into the tundra for a chance to view the outstanding northern lights (weather dependent). (1B)

Day 3 Churchill

Climb aboard a Tundra Buggy for a full-day wildlife-viewing excursion with a local expert. Take in the majestic landscape, and search for polar bears, arctic foxes, ptarmigans, and more. Stop for a picnic lunch on the tundra. This evening, join representatives from Polar Bears International (PBI) for a private cocktail reception and hear about their ongoing efforts to study and protect polar bears. The world's leading polar bear conservation organization, PBI has collaborated with National Geographic on a variety of research and education projects. (1B, 1L)

Day 4 Churchill

Enjoy a free morning to explore Churchill or opt to take a dogsledding excursion. After lunch, head to the Parks Canada Visitor Centre for an educational presentation about Canada’s national park service and its history in the Churchill area. This evening, sit down with a Churchill resident for an informal discussion about everyday life in this remote northern outpost. (1B, 1L)

Day 5 Winnipeg

Enjoy a second Tundra Buggy excursion today, observing polar bears and other Arctic wildlife with an expert from PBI. This evening, fly back to Winnipeg for our final night. (1B, 1L)
