Trip Overview

Some of Africa’s greatest wildlife viewing comes together for 16 days of outstanding adventure in the wild. Trek into the Rwandan jungle for the rare opportunity to watch a gorilla family in its element, head out in search of playful chimpanzees in Uganda, and get immersed in the realm of elephants and rhinos in Kenya. Watching the world pass you by has never been more profound.

Itinerary - 16 Days

Day 1 Kigali

Arrive at anytime. Arrival transfer included.

Day 2 Kigali/Volcanoes National Park

Visit the unforgettable Genocide Memorial to learn about a tragic period in Rwanda's past. Take a walk through Nyamirambo Township and enjoy a local lunch at the G Adventures-supported Nyamirambo Women's Centre, which provides local women with education and vocational training. Continue to our lodge just outside Volcanoes National Park, offering stunning views of the surrounding volcanic peaks. (1B, 1L, 1D)

Days 3 & 4 Volcanoes National Park

Spend two days taking guided treks in the park to observe gorillas and golden monkeys in their natural habitats. Enjoy a lecture on gorilla behavior from one of the park wardens, and discuss ongoing conservation efforts with a researcher from the Karisoke Research Center, founded by National Geographic grantee and legendary primatologist Dian Fossey. Meet one of the head wardens for Volcanoes National Park to hear an in-depth talk on mountain gorillas, and visit a nearby village for a firsthand look at rural life in the region. (2B, 1L, 2D)

Days 5, 6, & 7 Queen Elizabeth National Park

Cross into Uganda and continue to our lodge, located just beyond the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The next day, trek through the lush Kalinzu Forest Reserve with a ranger in search of chimpanzees. In the afternoon, set out on safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to buffalos, lions, leopards, and more. Rise early the following day for another safari, and then cruise the Kazinga Channel to view hippos and birds, and, with a bit of luck, elephants or big cats. (3B, 3L, 3D)

Day 8 Entebbe

After breakfast, head to Entebbe, stopping en route at the Equator. Then pay a visit to a royal drum maker’s workshop for a drum-making demonstration and short musical performance. (1B, 1L)

Day 9 Entebbe/Nairobi

Catch a flight from Entebbe to Nairobi and transfer to our hotel. (1B)

Days 10 & 11 Masai Mara

Travel to our comfortable tented camp located in the heart of Kenya's premier wildlife reserve. Enjoy daily game drives and options to visit a Maasai village or embark on a balloon safari. In the evenings, settle back at the camp and marvel at the expansive views of the surrounding plains. (2B, 2L, 2D)

Day 12 Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart early for the G Adventures-supported Ubuntu Café, an initiative that offers employment opportunities to local women. Visit the craft center, meet some of the Mamas in the program, then sit down to a delicious farm-to-table lunch. Continue to our safari lodge inside Lake Nakuru National Park. Take an afternoon game drive around Lake Nakuru, on the lookout for the rare rhinos that live here. (1B, 1L, 1D)

Days 13 & 14 Amboseli National Park

Embark on a sunrise game drive before continuing on to Amboseli National Park and our tented safari camp. The next day, head out on morning and afternoon games drives, taking in views of iconic Kilimanjaro and the wildlife that live in its shadow. Gain a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding poaching and elephant conservation during a lecture by a speaker from the Kenya Wildlife Service, now chaired by National Geographic Explorer Richard Leakey. Day 15 Nairobi

Enjoy an incredible African sunrise on our last game drive before heading back to the capital. (1B, 1L)

Day 16 Nairobi
