Experience some of South America’s incredible sites on a 16-day adventure that brings together the awe-inspiring landscapes of Ecuador and the vivid cultures of Peru. Explore the Amazon rain forest and sleep under its living, orchestral canopy during two days at our jungle lodge; follow in the footsteps of the Incas at iconic Machu Picchu; and feel at home among the people of the Sacred Valley. From the cacophony of the Amazon to the silent beauty of the Andes, echoes of this experience will resound long after the trip is over.

Drive to the highlands with a stop at the community of Peguche for lunch. Continue to the indigenous town of Otavalo and explore its celebrated market. Spend the night at a historical hacienda. (1B, 1L)
Visit the studio of a renowned artisan to learn about local weaving traditions. Continue to the Papallacta Hot Springs Resort for on-site hot springs, optional spa treatments, and hiking excursions. The next day, take a guided nature walk through the private cloud forest reserve at Guango Lodge. See the resident capuchin monkeys of Misahualli, and then continue to Tena to catch a motorized canoe to our Amazon lodge. Later, set out on a night walk with the naturalist guide to learn about the nocturnal creatures of the Amazon (2B, 1L, 1D)
Rise early for a canoe excursion to a parrot clay lick. Return to the lodge for breakfast, and then tour AmaZOOnico, an animal rescue center that rehabilitates animals that are victims of illegal trafficking. Later, visit a local family’s home to learn about daily life in the Amazon. (1B, 1L, 1D)
Depart the Amazon for Baños, a town surrounded by lush volcanic peaks. On the way, visit the Omaere Ethnobotanical Park to learn how Ecuador’s indigenous cultures have found medicinal, culinary, and spiritual uses for native plant species. The next day is free: opt to go hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, canyoneering, white-water rafting, or zip-lining; or visit the hot springs. (2B)
Drive back to Quito along the scenic Avenue of Volcanoes with a visit to Cotopaxi National Park en route. Enjoy stunning views of Cotopaxi, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Fly to Lima, Peru the next day. (2B)
Board an early flight to Cusco; then continue to the Sacred Valley to spend two days exploring with a local guide. See the pre-Inca salt pans of Las Salineras, tour the Inca ruins at Maras and Moray, and enjoy a traditional pachamanca-style meal. The next day, tour the G Adventures-supported Parque de la Papa, or Potato Park, a network of rural agricultural communities working to preserve more than 700 species of potatoes. Learn about potato cultivation and traditional weaving, and the importance of each to Andean culture. Explore the Pisac and Ollantaytambo ruins, and visit the G Adventures-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant in the village of Huchuy Qosqo. (2B, 1L, 1D)
Catch an early transfer to Ollantaytambo station and board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes. Opt to visit the town’s hot springs, butterfly house, or botanical garden. (1B)
Enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu ruins. Then explore on your own or hike to the Inca Bridge. Later, return to Cusco by train. (1B)
Explore historic Cusco, with options to visit museums or go horseback riding or paragliding. This evening, glimpse the night sky through the telescopes of the Cusco planetarium. (1B)
Fly back to Lima for our final evening. Depart at any time the next day. (2B)
