Get in touch with the ancient past alongside an archaeologist amid the ash-preserved ruins of Pompeii, marvel at Renaissance treasures in iconic Venice and enchanting Florence, and stop and smell the lemons in the quaint cliff-side villages of the Amalfi Coast. Itinerary - 14 Days

Day 1 Venice

Arrive at any time.

Day 2 Venice

Take an orientation walk through the spectacular lanes and piazzas of Venice. Explore the city on your own this afternoon, or opt to visit the Doge’s Palace, glide across the canals on a gondola ride, or cruise to Murano and Burano—two of the northern Venetian islands. (1B)

Day 3 Cinque Terre

Head to Cinque Terre for an overnight stay in a charming village perched on the rocky coast. Take in the region’s colorful waterfront towns during a boat ride on the crystal-clear Ligurian Sea. (1B)

Days 4, 5, & 6 Florence

Travel to Florence and take an orientation walk through its lively streets. Then enjoy two free days to explore the city, with optional tours of Ponte Vecchio and the Medici Chapels. Or opt to take an excursion to Pisa or the medieval city of Lucca. (3B)

Day 7 Naples

Catch the train to Naples, where there is the option to enjoy a fantastic meal in the birthplace of pizza. Opt to visit the National Archaeological Museum, or tour the labyrinth of caves and tunnels that lies below the old town. (1B)

Days 8 & 9 Pompeii/Sorrento

This morning, head out of town to walk amid the ruins of Pompeii with an archaeologist. Continue by private bus to Sorrento and tour a lemon farm, where we’ll sample limoncello. Later, take an optional trip to the well-preserved ruins of Herculaneum. Enjoy the next day at leisure in Sorrento, or opt to visit the nearby islands of Capri or Ischia. (2B)

Days 10 & 11 Amalfi

Travel to the awe-inspiring Amalfi coast and tour a local agriturismo . Meet the family that lives there and stroll the beautiful property, a converted 17th-century monastery. Head into the kitchen for a cooking demonstration and sit down for an unforgettable meal overlooking the Mediterranean. The next day, hike the famous “Walk of the Gods,” following ancient trails linking isolated farms, villages, churches, and monasteries. (2B, 1L)

Days 12 & 13 Rome

Travel to Rome and take an orientation walk. Enjoy a free day to explore this ancient city. Opt to visit the Colosseum or the Vatican. Or just wander the streets, breaking at a café for some gelato. (2B)

Day 14 Rome

Depart at any time. (1B)
