Continue on to a local family's kitchen and taste an array of Oaxacan cuisine, learn traditional cooking methods, and discuss the food culture in Oaxaca. Discover the culture, spirituality, and celebrations of the famed Day of the Dead festival. As the festivities begin, see parades in Oaxaca and Etla Valley. Visit cemeteries in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán and Santa Maria Atzompa to observe families gathering at dusk, and take part in their candlelight vigils. Enjoy plenty of free time for independent discovery of the city during the celebrations. You may also opt to see the ancient Zapotec ruins at the nearby archaeological sites of Monte Albán or Mitla.
