Stunning, engaging, inspiring—these are just some of the factors we look for when choosing a cover photo for National Geographic Traveler magazine. Whether it’s from a surprising location or iconic destination, we are looking for images with a sense of place, as well as specific design factors like space for text. We have been discussing these nuances with our photo community, Your Shot, as we search for our next great cover.
In this assignment—free and open for anyone to participate—we encourage you to share an image and story from The Trip That Changed Your Life. Find inspiration in a few of our favourite submissions so far, and submit your own before March 5, 2018 for a chance to be a cover star!
Lead Image: "Recently I went to Zgornje Jezersko and it was foggy for most of the day. After trudging around for the better part of 6 hours we finally decided to go back. At that time the fog cleared and we took our tripods out for one last photo. I thought of myself as a dog photographer who likes to take pictures of other things as well, however, this trip inspired me to try out landscape photography and expand. This truly inspired me and gave me a new motivation towards photography." PHOTOGRAPH BY ASTRID V., NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC YOUR SHOT
