Inside the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo, Italy, lies the body of 2-year-old Rosalia Lombardo (1918-1920), the best-preserved mummy in the world. The catacombs were built in the 16th century, after the death of monk Silvestro of Gubbio, who was mummified in 1599. The monks did such a good job preserving the bodies of their brothers that the catacombs soon became a popular final resting place for the European elite.
