St Paul's Cathedral: Engineering problems
Building the Cathedral in sections, Wren knows the money could run out before he realizes his dream of crowning it with a glorious dome. He gambles with a bold and simple plan. He commits to building the whole cathedral. Long before he has completed other sections of the building, Wren has already laid the foundations for his visionary dome. He calculates Parliament won’t call a halt to the half-built Cathedral, leaving an eyesore in the heart of the city. They will have to complete the Cathedral as he plans, but behind his timber curtain Wren quickly runs into engineering problems.
